Johnnie & the Rumblers - FREE SHOW!!: Saturday, July 22, 2017 | 07:00pm-10:00pm

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heGJ9GcLa1I

Johnnie and the Rumblers are a “ baby boomers” band. Johnnie states, “We’re a couple of guys in our 60’s. We discovered our passion for music back in the 60's. Did a lot of gigs..had some great times. Then we had to grow up...jobs, family, marriage, kids, mortgages....(followed later by divorce, cancer, tatoo'd kids, wrinkles...life!).

We keep coming back to what we've always loved though...music and performing. Recently, we retired from our day jobs and released our 1st CD entitled "Dos Equis". We enjoy playing a variety of great music from the 50’s through the 80’s. Artists like Elvis, Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, Bill Halley and the Comets..the Eagles, Beatles, Eric Clapton, Santana and more. We also slip in a few cool country songs by people like Vince Gill, Brooks, and Dunn, Brad Paisley, Garth Brooks and others.”

Band mates William “Dirty Bill” Halstead (bass guitar) and Kip Leon (drums) round out this talented Tucson trio.  Johnnie and Dirty Bill have been performing in Tucson together since the early 1980’s and in 1989 formed Johnnie and the Rumblers along with recently deceased drummer Michael Walsh. “Mike was a great band-mate and drummer. Johnnie and I miss him. We’ve dedicated the

Dos Equis recording to him” says Dirty Bill.

 Johnnie Molina

Guitars, Vocals and Songwriter

Johnnie and the Rumblers are led by long time Tucson, Arizona, USA  guitarist Johnnie Molina. Johnnie has been performing in Tucson since 1972. He recently retired from his electrical engineering job at Burr Brown/Texas Instruments where he designed micro-electronic circuits. He is now focusing his energy on song writing and performing blues, classic rock and country music. Johnnie says "I've been playing and performing since I was 15 years old. Life has had me on different priorities over the years, but there’s never been any doubt in my mind where my heart was. The guys and I may have a few wrinkles on our faces but as musicians… we’re in our prime. If someone had told me when I was 15 that I’d still be rocking at 63….well… not sure what I would have said!”

Johnnie’s electric guitar style reflects a variety of guitar hero’s from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s who influenced his style.  A little Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana and even Joe Walsh (from his James Gang days) can be heard during Johnnie’s live performances.

William “Dirty Bill” Halstead

Bass Guitar and Vocals

“Dirty Bill” is a born and raised Tucsonan. Bill grew up near the city of

South Tucson  and due to a variety of events that occurred during his youth,

he is now known as “Dirty” Bill. The specifics on how he earned this nickname is outside the scope of this bio.    J

Bill worked as steel and ornamental iron salesman before retiring. He say’s “I started out at 14 playing in an acoustic mariachi guitar duo with my uncle. Once I heard Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and The Allman Brothers , I bought my first Fender P-Base and the acoustic guitar went unused for about 20 years.”  Bill also states “It’s all about the audience for me. Kind of like being with a woman…if she’s having a good time…so am I.  I also love recording. It’s part of your legacy.”

Johnnie adds “Willie boy caught my attention the very first time I jammed with him. I loved his sound and the way he played. He’s been my friend and musical soul-mate since.”

Keith “Kip” Leon

Drums and Percussion

Keith “Kip” Leon was born in Sunderland, England. He’s lost his English accent but not his love for music and percussion. Growing up, he loved musicians and bands like Cozy Cole, Keith Moon, The Who, Cream, Ginger Baker, The Beatles and Allman Brothers. Kip’s easy going demeanor or as he calls it “Flow by the moment” attitude has a relaxing effect on his band mates and all who know him. He’s performed in various Tucson bands over the years like the Frank and Woody Show, Swing Shift and The Collectors since moving to Tucson in 1974. Kip worked for the US Postal Service for 34 years before retiring.

Kip joined Johnnie and the Rumblers in 2014 and has recorded most of the band’s sound tracks since their Dos Equis CD.  Johnnie states “Kip just fit in from day 1. At our age, finding bandmates who are talented, reliable, easy and fun to work with is damn hard. Hopefully, we all have a few years left in us before we all start falling down and can’t get up!”.
